GEA - C21ILLC Final-8We are continuously searching for exciting and varied music for Your Tuesday Afternoon Alternative and would like to encourage bands, poets, musicians, songwriters, storytellers and artists across genres to consider contacting us for possible broadcast on future episodes of YTAA.

This week on YTAA we will be joined by Tim Pritchard of The Boxcar Suite!  Tim will be in studio to talk about the band’s new EP Life on the Limb and their upcoming show on April 1st at the legendary Trolley Stop as well as the next full length record the band is work on! Babbling April’s “Farewell Dayton” Party

We learned a few weeks ago that Dave and Vivienne of Babbling April will be leaving the Gem City for new jobs in Washington DC at the end of March. And while we informed them that this has to be some kind of mistake.  They assure us that they have to take this opportunity.  So, Dayton got together last night it was time for one last hurrah for Babbling April as-we-know-them, featuring some of Dayton’s finest bands.

We saw It’s People, of course Babbling April played a terrific set, the always energetic Speaking Suns and the fantastic Manray!

The farewell party was held in the Fire Blocks District of downtown Dayton where we all hope to develop a DIY space for bands to play as well as other cultural events in the city –spoken word performance, alternative lectures, rallies and more. There was no cover charge, but donations were accepted to raise money for the bands that so graciously gave up their time to play for all of us! 

Babbling April will return. But until then here is a clip of Babbling April doing a Pixies cover!  So fun!

Wye Oak, new music from The Buzzcocks, Broken Bells, the R.E.M. video collection, The Horrors, The Ready Set, The Brain Jonestown Massacre, Maniac Street Preachers, Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Weird Al Yankovic, Jenny Lewis, The Gaslight Anthem, Ty Segall, The Kooks, U2, Aphex Twin, Foxygen, Cold War Kids, The Flaming Lips did The Beatles, Simple Minds, Pink Floyd, Bryan Ferry, and much much more!

Think about all that you have enjoyed in 2014: Music, Concerts and Shows, Experiences, Books, and more. What are among some of your favorites of this year that is slowly drawing to a close? This past weekend we had an amazing group of shows in our fine city of Dayton so this is a perfect time to beginning thinking about this past year.

A nearly complete listing of releases can be found on the Wikipedia site for music in 2014!  While not entirely without some notable misses… it is a good place to see why 2014 was a great year for music.

Who Wants to Listen to Music Alone? A Collective Conversation on YTAA

DSC05534What is the first thought that you have when a great song comes along? As you listen to it over and over again…does excitement build? Do you start dancing? And, be honest –Don’t names of friends pop into your head? And why is that?

When you hear a great song it captures your attention and often the first thought you have is that you want — need — to share it! A great tune leads ultimately to the need to be shared. Well that is what we are going to do this week. In addition to playing new songs, we are talking to musicians about their music and what is it about music that makes it such a collective — community experience.

Starving in the Belly of the WhaleRicky Terrell of Starving in the Belly of the Whale and Dave Zup will join us in the studio to talk about upcoming shows, projects, and their interpretation on the collective power of music. Ricky will be talking about the upcoming release of the crowd-funded Missionaries and Impostors; and he’ll give us all the info on the release show!
