Hello there! This week we will be joined by Cathy Cowan talking about her Big Cats Little Cats effort. We will also be previewing Austin Livingood’s new song Nashville. We are also playing new music from Timothy Pritchard and The Boxcar Suite! Expect tons of new music from Major Major Major, Portugal The Man, Alex Bleeker and the Freaks, Snowden, Decker, Two Trees, and much more. We can’t tell you everything – there has to be some surprise.

Mrs. Dr. J will get you shaking your groove-thing with the third installment of her dance party. Hey, it is summer after all.

We will finally announce — yeah, we know — the pick for the next YTAA music book club discussion.

Fundraiser for Cats of All Sizes

A good friend of the show has created a wonderful and inventive swim marathon fundraiser throughout June to raise money for Lions Tigers and Bears sanctuary in California, which was instrumental in placing dozens of big cats from Ohio into new homes.  She is also raising support for the Cat Welfare Association, the biggest cat shelter in central Ohio.  You can read more about this effort — and if possible, contribute — to it at the blog for this important fundraiser for cat shelters: http://bigcatslittlecats.wordpress.com/

Up to Up-date!  A listener in Cincinnati just asked “why do a request show?”  Our answer:  We know what folks want to hear… not because of market research bs, or because that’s what they program in LA, or because that is what is “charting”, or some truly misguided sense of our own importance — we know because we asked and listeners told us what they wanted to hear.  And that is what we are playing tomorrow!  Because that is how radio is supposed to work! — Dr. J

Join Dr. J for hour one from 3-4pm when we will be featuring Luke Frazier, Mikal Cronin, Koala Fires, Junip, The Story Changes, and much more! Brand new music from Guided by Voices — yeah, we know that is not too surprising! — except that we also have new music from Iggy and the Stooges! Got your attention now?!

Mrs. Dr. J will bring her radio sophistication from 4-6pm and we will kick things up a notch or three! We have many new songs to bring your way and we are very excited. Now, we can’t go through them all here because that would be telling, right? And sometimes the best reveal is as it is happening!

Tomorrow we will unveil the choice for the on-air book review so you will have plenty of time to read the book so you can participate!

So tomorrow from 3 to 6pm, your Tuesday takes an alternative path with music, concert information, and a few surprising announcements! Tune in it will be fun. Red Cross:

Donate to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund here.  The Red Cross also suggests giving blood at your local hospital or blood bank. If you want to text a $10 donation to the Disaster Relief fund, text the word REDCROSS to 90999.

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief:

Monetary donations are requested. To donate, go to the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief’s website.

Salvation Army:

This Tuesday we will be playing three hours of independent, local, and Dayton music for you! Our theme this week is remembrance. We will be exploring how music can create powerful memories, build connections between strangers, and why a song can all too easily transport you back to a moment in time.

We will be chatting with our friends Jeff Rudolf of Sam at Eleven and Tom Gilliam of The Rebel Set about the Cancer Benefit both bands played a few weeks back!

Expect music from Blank Tapes, Wild Nothing, The Rotaries, Apple Tree, Camera Obscura, Underground Lovers, The Men, Baby Bee, The Lost Patrol, Guided by Voices, Luke Frazier, Foals, Still Corners, and many more. Dr. J will also be playing demo of a classic song from The Replacements.

We are working on our next music book discussion — what book about music have you read recently that you would recommend for our next music book conversation? We will be putting up a poll on which book we should discuss. This is important — you, the listener and music lover can decide what book about bands, music, a music scene we should discuss! Smith, ‘Guided by Voices: A Brief History: Twenty-One Years of Hunting Accidents in the Forests of Rock and Roll’, ‘Waging Heavy Peace’ by Neil Young, and ‘Petal Pusher’ by Laurie Lindeen of Zuzu’s Petals. All terrific books by and about musicians.  What book would you recommend to Dr. and Mrs. J to read and then discuss on Your Tuesday Afternoon Alternative in a few weeks?

Two Trees – ‘Your Woods’
