This Tuesday we will be playing three hours of independent, local, and Dayton music for you! Our theme this week is remembrance. We will be exploring how music can create powerful memories, build connections between strangers, and why a song can all too easily transport you back to a moment in time.

We will be chatting with our friends Jeff Rudolf of Sam at Eleven and Tom Gilliam of The Rebel Set about the Cancer Benefit both bands played a few weeks back!

Expect music from Blank Tapes, Wild Nothing, The Rotaries, Apple Tree, Camera Obscura, Underground Lovers, The Men, Baby Bee, The Lost Patrol, Guided by Voices, Luke Frazier, Foals, Still Corners, and many more. Dr. J will also be playing demo of a classic song from The Replacements.

We are working on our next music book discussion — what book about music have you read recently that you would recommend for our next music book conversation? We will be putting up a poll on which book we should discuss. This is important — you, the listener and music lover can decide what book about bands, music, a music scene we should discuss! So, let us know and we will see you on Tuesday on WUDR!Image

Debut this week from Two Trees!

Two Trees – ‘Your Woods’

We will also have the North American debut of Swedish Folk duo Two Trees – ‘Your Woods’ on Tuesday’s Show!  This amazing song is reminiscent of some of the fine music that Richard and Linda Thompson created.  The lovely swirl of voices from Charlotta Frostenson and Fride Hanburger will take you to a place of beauty.  You can listen to their music on their bandcamp page — and we highly recommend that you check them out on Tuesday around 4pm when we will be playing ‘Your Woods’!  You can connect with Fride on twitter at @FrideHamburger and Charlotta on twitter at @LoFrostenson or for the band on twitter at @twotreesmusic.

Not Just Another Tuesday

We will be playing new music, several classic indie cuts, and be talking with some folks that you may know… can we get a little more cryptic? Yes – we could!

Expect some new music from The dbs, The Replacements, Fourth of July, The Mowhawk Lodge, Yo La Tengo, Mother Falcon, Still Corners, Ghosty, Dear Fawn, The Story Changes, The Lost Patrol, The Sonic Executive Sections, The Lonely Wild, Ex Cops, Underground Lovers, and that is just in hour one!

We will be talking to some of our friends about the Dayton music scene! Want to join the conversation? Call us between 2:45 and 4pm!

We already have requests for Foxygen and Phoenix that we will play on the show!

New Motel Beds video

One of Dayton’s saviors of rock and roll, our own Motel Beds keep getting attention for their ‘we are not afraid of guitar’ songs. Their video for the second song on their terrific new album, Dumb Gold is called “Valentimes”. Remember now and do not forget that the ‘Beds have made Dumb Gold available for a name your own price — that means it could be free but you really should cough up a few dollars! Great music for your music listening pleasure!

Once you hear a Motel Beds song, you cannot go back!

Have you heard the “News”?

Donora
Donora’s new EP is out now!

Of course we mean new music! Join Mrs. Dr. J and Dr. J as we play a new show with loads of new indie music for your Tuesday Afternoon! Expect great music from Donora, Ex Cops, Jacco Gardner, The Coat Hangers, The Little Ones, Bad Bad Hats, Team Spirit, Frightened Rabbit, The Shilohs, and much more brand new music. So new not all of it is out of the shiny plastic wrap stuff!

We are also going to chat about the pitfalls of music critique in social media and what makes a great bass line. We’re also thinking about what our next on-air music book reviews should be — send us your suggestions!

As always, join us this Tuesday as we turn your afternoon new and alternative!

Major Major Major

Major Major Major

A fantastic new band out of Austin, Major Major Major has some great music available for download on their bandcamp page. We just played Polka Dots + Porcelain. How did we find out about Major Major Major? Why, from Justin at the Atlas and the Anchor! He links to lots of great music, so be sure to take a look.

We cannot get enough of The Decade Runners!

We just had to share a recent discovery that we have made… The Decade Runners is a band that you must check out!  You need to hear tThe Decade Runners - The Rideheir amazing song, The Ride… and once you do — you will simply be unable to live without it.  How often does that really happen in music anymore?  We do not mean some corporate piece of music that you are told to love because executives are counting on sales of units.  No, we mean a song that once you hear it… the music hits you stronger than a slap upside the head.  You hear the guitars, the bouncy bass line, and a steady drum cadence that leaves you no choice.  No choice whatsoever.  You get up, you dance, you smile and you just close your eyes and find yourself transported by the music. A great song can do that.  A great song should do that!

The Decade Runners are a guitar-focused rock band with a perfect, captivating sound that seems all the more impossible when you find out how crushingly young the band members are for playing such complex melodies.  They sound like a band that is much older — and we mean that in a good way, alright! — than simply measured in years. As stated in their bio, The Decade Runners “came about as a result of three of the members being in the same class at school.”  And in true, Tom Hanksian – That Thing You Do fashion, the band wins a competition and they understand that they have some special on their hands.  And we believe that after you hear The Ride, you will believe that too.

Brand new song from Dave Mann and More this Week

A new show tomorrow as Your Tuesday Afternoon turns Alternative featuring music and a premier from our friend Dave Mann – Tiny Spark.  The song will make your day!

Hold on tight for bands like Fast Years, King Elk, Motel Beds, Me & Mountains, POP-ETC, Southeast Engine, Dear Fawn, Homemade, PowerFlower, Water Liars, Japandroids, Smashing Pumpkins, Soulsavers, Harper Blynn, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Black Cadillacs, Iskaa & the Red Cars, Good Sir Con Artist, Wussy, Mittenfields, Seedy Seeds, Royal Headache, Guided by Voices and more.

We will be talking about YTAA T-shirts, bumper stickers, and stickers…

So, tune in if you can because we would really appreciate it and you will discover great independent music on wudr.udayton.edu or 99.5 and 98.1 in the Dayton area!
