A Voice of Your Own on YTAA Today!

Today from 3-6pm at YTAA we are joined in the studio from the fine lads in A Voice of Your Own who will talk about their latest record, “Vines on the Lines” and upcoming shows in our local area, and how to get just the right feeling on a song. The music that AVOYO make is reminiscent of 90’s alternative music in the best possible sense!

A Voice Of Your Own blends traditional pop song structures, and low fi indie influences with a hands-on DIY approach that connects and pays homage to their musical influences while sounding fresh and contemporary. AVOYO draws from a variety of different skilled artists and musicians such as Tom Petty, The Cars, Beck, and The White Stripes which is some pretty damn fine company! AVOYO started as a solo project formed by producer, guitarist, and song writer James Crabtree. As a solo project, AVOYO had previously independently released two full length albums.  Today the band has evolved into a full dynamic group.

A Voice of Your Own have a new record “Vines On The Lines” that has been available since February. The band currently consists of James Crabtree (guitar/vocals), Johnny McConnell (bass), Levi Short (guitar/vocals) Tylur Kahnle (guitar) and Matt Mihalus (drums). We welcome them to the YTAA studio this week!

Kyleen Downes Returns with “Friends”

Kyleen Downes at YTAAOur pal Kyleen Downes returns to the YTAA Studio with her latest record and we are super excited to have her back on the program!

Kyleen Downes joins us tomorrow at YTAA to talk about her upcoming EP release and much more! Kyleen made FRIENDS, that is literally! She has a four song EP recorded on analogue at Reel Love Recording Company that she wants to share with us which is a good thing because sharing is caring.

Kyleen has a show where this fine music will debut on Friday, March 30th. She will be in very good company with Wonky Tonk, the Lovers, Kerchief, and Blossom Hall! You want to go and go early because the first 40 people through the door will get copies of the Friends EP for free. Yup, no money whether paper or bitcoin will be needed if you are among the first 40 to see the show at the Old Yellow Cab Tavern! You will need $8 to get into the show but that seems more than fair. Door opens at 7:30 pm and the music begins at 8 pm! Make those plans to join us on Tuesday, March 27 from 3-6pm on WUDR and then go see the show on Friday, March 30th with Kyleen, Wonky Tonk, The Lovers, Kerchief, and Blossom Hall.

YTAA 2017 Memorial Show

WUDR before

Every year Tom Gilliam and Dr. J play music from all of the musicians and artists that we lost in the previous year. 2017 was an especially challenging year with the passing of Tom Petty, Tommy Keene, Gregg Allman, Chris Cornell, Joni Sledge, Al Jarreau, Malcolm Young, Prodigy, Chester Bennington, J. Giels, Clyde Stubblefield, Glen Campbell, David Cassidy, Pete Young, Walter Becker, Mel Tellis, Butch Trucks, John Wetton, and Pat DiNizio; as well as the loss of musical trailblazers like Fats Domino and Chuck Berry.

So, join Tom and Dr. J as we reflect on the musicians that joined the heavenly choir on Your Tuesday Afternoon Alternative from 3-6pm on WUDR Flyer Radio. You can listen along at wudr.udayton.edu or 99.5 & 98.1fm in Dayton, Ohio!
